Peels at Facial Aesthetic Concepts in Orange County

#At Facial Asthetic Concepts we offer several unique chemical peels to meet your aesthetic goals. Chemical peels are excellent, affordable treatment options to improve the quality of your skin.

Lighter chemical peels are performed by our estheticians and physician assistants, and are excellent options to remove superficial brown spots, improve finer lines and wrinkles, and simply refresh the appearance of your skin. The downtime after a chemical peel is variable and based on the peel you have. Some have no downtime at all while others will create some "bronzing" with subsequent peeling, which is completed in 2 to 5 days.

For more sun damaged skin or skin showing the signs of aging, medium to deep chemical peels are available through our board-certified facial plastic surgeons. Phenol and an assortment of TCA peels are available. These more thorough peels will treat more stubborn brown spots, more difficult skin textural issues, and deeper lines and wrinkles. The peeling is typically completed in 4 to 7 days, with very mild pinkness in the skin resolving shortly thereafter.

Our providers are available for peels Monday thru Saturdays. A complimentary consultation can be arranged with any of our providers by contacting one of our three offices.

Please follow the outline below to prepare.

  • Delay use of Retin-A or Renova for approximately five (5) days prior to your appointment. (Using Retin-A will take the treatment deeper.)

  • Get prescription for your anti-viral medications if you have a history of cold sores or fever blisters, and begin taking your medication 3 days prior to your treatment.

Post Treatment Instructions

You have just had a chemical peel treatment. Due to the nature of these treatments, you should not necessarily expect to “peel”. However, you may have light flaking for a few days. Most patients who undergo these treatments have only residual redness for anywhere from one to twelve hours.

It is recommended that you do not apply makeup the day of the treatment. It is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight. However, makeup may be applied if absolutely necessary. Tonight, your skin will feel tight and “pulled”. Apply moisturizer as frequently as needed. Although you may or may not actually peel, it is likely that you will experience a light exfoliation. It may take two or more treatments for the surface skin to loosen and peel. Everyone responds differently and most patients look quite normal the day after their treatment. Unless recommended by your technician, do not apply other medications or AHA products to your skin, as they may be too irritating.

1. Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat
2. Do not pick at or pull on any loosening or exfoliating skin. This can potentially cause hyperpigmentation
3. A pigment gel is recommended twice a day (after one week from treatment) to continue lightening of hyperpigmented areas
4. Absolutely DO NOT go to a tanning booth for at least 3 weeks before or after a treatment
5. Discontinue use of Retin-A/Renova for 7 days post treatment

For the next 2 day period:

  • Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated areas
  • Do not put the face directly into a hot shower spray
  • Do not use a jacuzzi, steam room, or sauna
  • Do not go swimming
  • Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration
